Hightest Obedience Training
The Hightest obedience course is six weeks and costs $1,150.00. It is for all breeds of medium to large size
dogs, six months or older. The dogs stay at the kennel during their training
and are housed in individual runs. Half the fee is due in advance and the other
half when you pick up your dog. Pre-scheduled, one-on-one, owner training
sessions with you and the trainer are included in the fee, as well as follow
up sessions you may need. We feed Purina Pro Plan Performance diet, which is a top rated dog food. We will feed specialized diets and administer medications you provide, free of charge.
Obedience training helps
make dogs more manageable and responsive to commands. An obedient dog is a joy
to own and a rewarding family companion. We instruct you how to discipline and
work with your dog in an organized, step-by-step program. Obedience training
does not change the nature of the dog or address behaviors such as aggression,
excessive barking, digging or housebreaking. Feel free to call and we will be
happy to discuss what training solutions may be available to address your dog's
specific problems.

Our obedience trainers encourage the dogs to reach their full potential with
praise and training exercises that are fun. We also have an excellent handler
training program that makes it easy for you to learn how to discipline and work
with your dog effectively. It is best if you can come up at least three times
during the six weeks for a one on one, instructional session with your dog and
the trainer. These one hour sessions can be scheduled a few days in
advance.
We promise
to care for
your dog as
if it were
our own!
For most of the obedience training, we use a six foot leash and choke chain collar.
We use pinch collars for larger, strong dogs that are
more difficult for their owners to manage. The remote electronic collar is used
to reinforce commands and is especially effective in teaching dogs to come when
they are called, under all conditions, regardless of distracting circumstances.
The dogs are generally worked in two short training sessions daily with a time
out to play, swim, or retrieve.

Greetings from Livonia, Michigan
This note is to say thank you to Hightest Kennels (Debra and John Folsom) for the excellent service in providing me with my new pet GIMLI.
Gimli is the most wonderful dog (Shortie Jack Russel Terrier). He arrived September 4, 2010 via United Airlines from Sacramento California. He was on time and in excellent condition. All the details of the flight were organized and emailed by Debra. He was groomed and in excellent health. Gimli had undergone 6 weeks of Hightest's professional obedience training program.
What a pleasure to have this wonderful, well mannered pet.
Thanks again John and Debra & the Hightest staff.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my dog forget me while being away from me so long during training? Dogs have a very long memory and six weeks to three months is not a long time for them. You will also be coming up to the kennel at scheduled intervals during the training to work with your dog and the trainer. Once your dog smells you and hears your voice he/she will recognize you and be happy to see you.
Will training change my dog's personality? Training changes your dog's behavior but not his personality. Training helps organize the dogs thought processes so that he can be more self controlled and respond to commands.
Will training correct my dog's undesirable habits such as digging, destructive chewing or nuisance barking? Training teaches the dog to respond to commands when you are present. It does not teach the dog to behave in a certain manner when you are absent. Digging and chewing are best addressed by confining your dog in a crate or dog run when you are unable to supervise him. Nuisance barking is best controlled with an electronic bark collar which picks up the vibration of the dog's vocal cords when he barks. They are variable intensity and can be adjusted to a suitable level.
